RAP APIs

The Reliance specific classes are an extension to the existing standard MIDP/CLDC classes provided by Sun Microsystems. This set of classes provides enhanced functionality and power to the developer who is creating applications for the Reliance Application Platform. Following are the steps a developer needs to take to run an application using the emulator.

1. Copy the library file containing the reliance specific classes to the folder C:\WTK104\lib.

2. Execute the Application on the Wireless toolkit emulator.

To deploy the application on the server(for executing on the actual phone) the developer must remove the Reliance specific class files from the application jar file.

Canvas

The objective of using canvas is to have uniform look and feel across all RIC applications. It also provides enhanced UI capabilities, which are not available in the standard SCREEN IO. The Canvas also helps to isolate the developer from the various phone UI differences. In the initial version it is possible only for a few functions. The eventual goal is to have a device agnostic (as much as possible). In future, the most popular classes can be part of the phone ROM itself, which in turn reduce the application size. Please note Reliance UI is not included in the phone and the same need to be packaged in your application if you are using canvas as part of your application.
