Common Instructions

Getting ready to fly - Activation

  • Activate IR & ILD
  • IR rental is Rs.150/month & will be billed in your monthly invoice.
  • Check the deposit amount for your mobile number. Pay the required deposit at the nearest Reliance Retail outlet.

IR – International Roaming Feature, ILD – International Long Distance Facility

Before you leave the Indian shores

  • Ensure IR & ILD are active on your mobile number.
  • Ensure "Roam" option is selected on your Handset.
  • Deactivate call forwards on your handset to avoid undue charges.
  • Carry a compatible GSM & 3G handset for Roaming at a foreign location.

Handset Settings:

  • Handset should be on 'International Roaming' mode while travelling at a foreign location to be able to register with the foreign network.
  • Path R world>SIM Tool Kit>Roaming. Select 'International'.
  • Restart the handset in case R world option is unavailable on the handset
    Device Network Setting
    Smart Phone SIM Tool kit > Roaming > 'International' Option
    Blackberry and other devices Menu > R Menu > 'Roam' Option
  • For data settings to work the APN on the handset should be as follows
    Registered States Access Point Name (APN)
    Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, Kolkata, West Bengal,Assam, North East and Himachal Pradesh Smartnet
    Rest of the states Rcomnet
  • Path: Settings>Destination>Network Settings>APN. Path may differ basis the handset in use. No APN settings are required for blackberry.
  • Handset automatically captures the foreign partner network. In case it doesn't select the network manually. Path : Settings>Network Settings/Mobile Networks>Select Network Manually. Path may change basis the handset in use.

Note: On returning to India, select ‘Home’ option, switch off & switch on the device & use it like before.

Activation of International Roaming on 3G Dongle & Other Data Devices (Tablets, iPAD etc) Activate IR & ILD features and follow the below steps

  • Insert the SIM in any GSM handset & switch it on.
  • Go to Menu>R Menu>'Roam'. Select Option 'Roam'. Handset will automatically register on the available network
  • After selecting 'Roam' switch of the Handset and insert the SIM into the 3G Dongle.

Other 3G Data Devices while Roaming (Tablets, iPAD etc)

  • Step 1: Insert the SIM in the data device & switch it on.
  • Step 2: Go to Menu>R Menu>"Roam". Select Option "Roam. This particular feature will be available in Settings under SIM application.

Note: On returning to India, select 'Home' option, switch off & switch on the device & use it like before.

Deactivation of International Roaming Service

  • We recommend you to keep the International Roaming Service active if you wish to use International Roaming in future,
  • You may also use the option of temporary suspension of the feature
  • For deactivation of the feature visit the nearest Reliance Retail outlet, reach customer service over phone or though the online chat service
  • The security deposit towards International Roaming service will be credited to the monthly invoice upon permanent disconnection of the service.

What is Seamless Connectivity

Earlier whenever you travelled abroad, you had to manually configure your handset to get a foreign operator network. However now with Seamless International Roaming SIM card you can just switch on and roam. No manual settings are required. All you have to do is to switch on your handset and the foreign network gets automatically available on your handset. It is an 'Out of the Flight - On to the Network' experience

Roaming with GSM Blackberry

Once the International Roaming feature is activated on the blackberry device follow the below steps

  • Path R-Menu>select Roaming option>International
  • For BlackBerry Curve 8900, Main Menu >Set up >R-Menu>International
  • Restart the device and it will register with the available foreign partner network
  • In case device is not registered go to Options>Mobile Network> Select desired network
  • Select 'National' option upon arrival in India
  • Please note the options will read as HOME and ROAM in place of NATIONAL and INTERNATIONAL in case you are using the older Reliance GSM SIM

Handset Settings for Smart phones and Feature phones

Handset will automatically register with the foreign partner network once it is switched on. If it doesn't select the network manually by following the below steps

  • Menu>R Menu>select 'Roam' . Handset will register with the available network
  • If not go to Menu>Settings>Network Settings. Search for the available partner network manually. Select the desired network.
  • In case the RWorld option is not available on the handset then please restart the handset.
  • Please select Menu>R Menu> 'Home' option while in India.

Handset Settings for Blackberry

  • On your BlackBerry device, go to Main Menu-R Menu-Roaming-select 'International'.
  • On the BlackBerry Curve 8900, you will need to go to Main Menu-Set up-R-Menu-Roaming-International.
  • Switch off & switch on the device. Automatically the device will latch onto the available network.
  • In case it doesn't go to Options tab and select 'Mobile Network' and available networks will appear. Select a network and you can make and receive calls.
  • Once you arrive in India, select 'National' option again to latch on to Reliance Network.
  • Please note the options will read as 'Home' & 'Roam' in place of 'National' & 'International' in case you are using the older Reliance GSM SIM.

How do I get the seamless International SIM?

Visit your nearest Reliance Retail outlet with a proof of address, proof of delivery and a passport size photograph. Your existing SIM will be replaced with a new seamless SIM

Are there any costs involved?

Replacement of non seamless SIM with a seamless SIM is a free procedure. There is no cost involved to exchange the SIM.

Am I Eligible?

  • This service is available for GSM postpaid Reliance Mobile customers.
  • Regular handset or Smartphone (like Android) users are required to replace their existing non seamless SIMs with Seamless SIMs. with a Seamless SIM card.
  • Users of Blackberry, Apple need not change their existing SIMs.
