FM Radio Data System is a standard for sending small amounts of digital information using conventional FM radio broadcasts in the range of 87.5 MHz to 108.0 MHz. It enables user interactivity with programs broadcasted by FM Channel (BIG FM 92.7) While transmission, the RDS system can have information like time, track, artist info, station name, program text etc tagged along with as identification.

iRadio is an application available on LG RD 6200 handset which extracts Radio Data Services information from BIG FM 92.7 and presents content (Ringtone and CRBT) in a user friendly format on the mobile screen.

While a song is broadcasted on BIG FM 92.7, the Radio Data Services channel  is used to send text relevant to the song- i.e. song title, album name, artist name, etc along with details of availability of content related to the song i.e. Ringtones and CRBT. RDS example- the text “BigFM”, “Hindi”, “Dard E Disco, Shahrukh Khan”   Now, if the user selects “Browse Ringtones” then the content related to the ringtone is downloaded to the handset.

While the FM is switched on any handset, the user gets to see the default buttons/options to change channels (i.e. previous & next channel), (to increase & decrease volume). iRadio has additional features which bring interactivity while listening to the song. Interactivity is in the form of a ticker and an option to download Ringtone/CRBT of the song which is been played by the FM channel. If corresponding content (Ringtone/CRBT) is available for the song being played, only then the dynamic button to download is shown, else it’s hidden.

No additional charges for using iRadio service, standard charges for Ringtones and CRBT apply.  Charges would be mentioned upfront before downloading any ringtone or selecting caller tunes.
