Reliance IndiaMobile launches International SMS to 159 countries, 430 operators

Reliance Infocomm has launched international Short Messaging Service (SMS) to as many as 159 countries including US, Canada and major European countries. With this Reliance Infocomm provides SMS facility to the largest number of countries and networks than any other mobile service provider in India.

International SMS will now allow Reliance IndiaMobile subscribers to send, receive, reply and forward simple text messages to friends, relatives and business associates across almost the entire world at the most affordable rate. The special launch price of Rs. 2 per SMS is the lowest international SMS rate in the country vis-à-vis Rs. 5 charged by other service providers. The service is made available through 430 operators stationed in these 159 countries (subject to SMS configuration on the network of other receiving operators).

"Earlier Reliance Infocomm revolutionized SMS as a messaging medium in the domestic market by making it affordable and accessible to millions of Indians. Reliance IndiaMobile subscribers send around 150 million (15 crore) messages every month. Now Reliance IndiaMobile is adding another dimension altogether by offering technology neutral SMS to International networks irrespective of the technology used - CDMA, GSM, TDMA or IDEN", said Mr. SP Shukla, President - Wireless Products & Services, Reliance Infocomm Ltd.

Reliance IndiaMobile subscribers do not need to register for International SMS separately. The subscribers can also send international SMS from their Reliance IndiaMobile phones even if they do not have an ISD connection.

>The next-generation Reliance IndiaMobile service is now commercially available in over 700 cities. It will soon be available in over 800 towns and cities across the country. The service is at present supported by over 250 Web Worlds and 7000 retail outlets where a customer can walk in and buy a fully provisioned CDMA mobile phone within 15 minutes.
